UPSA to appoint M.N.D. Jawula to set up Otumfuo Centre for Traditional Leadership

Prof. AlabiA nine-member delegation led by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), Professor Joshua Alabi, paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

The courtesy call was to formally thank the Asantehene for honouring the University’s Special Congregation invitation and generously supporting the establishment of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Centre for Traditional Leadership with GH¢100,000.

A statement issued by the University and copied to the Ghana News Agency said  Otumfuo Osei Tutu II announced the financial support during his speech at the Special Congregation held on November 8 at the University to honour him and the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Edward Doe Adjaho and Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, with doctorate degrees.

Prof. Alabi said when established, the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Centre for Traditional Leadership would provide formalised training in leadership, governance, conflict management, negotiation and documentation skills to chiefs and other traditional leaders in Ghana and beyond.

“The Centre would provide a platform for research into chieftaincy and traditional leadership issues and an annual school for dialogue and case sharing,” he said.

The Vice Chancellor also told the Asantehene that the University would be appointing a former Chief Director at the Ministry of Health, Lepowura Alhaji M.N.D. Jawula to help set up the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Centre for Traditional Leadership.

Prof. Alabi said the University was privileged to have the Asantehene as an alumnus and that his presence made the Special Congregation a major success.

The delegation comprised former Defence Minister,  Mr Kan-Dapaah, Alhaji Jawula; the University’s Registrar, Dr. Seidu M. Mustapha; the Director of Finance, Rev. Joseph K. Antwi; the Director of Administration, Mrs. Vivian Amoako; the Alumni President, John Kweku Mensah and some staff of the Public Relations Directorate.
