law-and-justiceLivingston Defor, 31, a self- styled businessman, on Tuesday appeared before the Kade District Magistrate’s Court on  a charge of defrauding by false pretence.

Police Inspector James Essel said the complainant was a gold miner living at Akwatia whilst Defor claimed to be the Manager of Paradise Travel and Tour Agency in Accra.

In May, Defor caused an announcement to be made on Denkyembuor FM, an Akwatia radio station, to the effect that he could help interested people seeking to travel abroad.

The complainant on hearing the announcement contacted Defor on phone and negotiations between the two began.

Defor demanded GHc5,000 from the complainant to enable him to start processing of the documents but went into hiding after collecting the money.

A report was made to the police and on November 19, Defor was arrested from his hideout at Madina in Accra.
