Assikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District to invest GH¢12.5m on development projects

cediThe Assikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Assembly has budgeted GH¢12,508,131.00, to execute priority projects and programmes to better the lot of the people in the district.

The projects include construction of school buildings, reshaping of feeder roads, procurement of disaster relief items, construction of Limited Small Town Water Supply System, support of persons with HIV and AIDs and malaria control programmes, construction of CHIP compounds and completion of Town Hall Complex with Library and Information, Communication and Technology Center at Breman Asikuma.

Mr Samuel Adom Botchway, District Chief Executive (DCE), made this known at the third ordinary meeting of the third session of the sixth Assembly held at Breman Asikuma where the composite Budget and fee fixing resolution was approved by the assembly members.

He said no school in the district scored zero per cent in the 2013 Basic Education Certificate Examination.

Mr Botchway said the performance notwithstanding, some schools recorded near zero per cent which requires dramatic remedial measures and support from stakeholders.

The DCE said it is about time the assembly comes out with clear and workable measures for the education directorate to implement it to enhance teaching and learning in all the schools in the district.

Mr Botchway said the revenue performance of the assembly has been relatively encouraging, though there is room for improvement.

He said at the end of October, a total of GH¢155,084.96 representing 77, 56 per cent has been generated as against GH¢137,118.14 budgeted for the year ending December 31.

Mr Botchway urged the assembly members to continue to help in the education of the people on the need to honour their tax obligation.

He said the Internal Generation Fund is the back bone of the district for development to supplement other grants and the district’s share of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund.
