Party politics hampering good governance in Ghana – Forum

Ghana flagsStakeholders at a Social Accountability and Public Expenditure workshop have identified party politics and partisanship as some factors hampering good governance, accountability, participation and Transparency.

They called for all inclusive governance which thrives on open administration irrespective of the political divide one belongs.

The Stakeholders made up of assembly members, Parent/Teacher Associations, clubs, NGOs and market women among others raised these concerns at a workshop organised by the Berea Social Foundation at Sekondi in the Western Region.

The Workshop was to educate them on Social Expenditure and Financial Accountability (SPEFA) project being implemented by the Local Government Ministry and its partnering agencies with support from SNV, a Netherlands Development Organisation.

The SPEFA project seeks to build as well as strengthen government’s fiscal framework, improve citizens’ engagement with the urban assemblies to improve the performance of MMDAs.

Ms. Joyce Cudjoe, Project Administrator of the Berea Social Foundation, said social accountability was key in achieving and maintaining good governance.
