Ghana to conduct public health exercise at Kotoka Airport

kotoka-airportIn line with the GCAA and ICAO Regulations, the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) would conduct a full scale Public Health simulation Exercise at the Kotoka International Airport on December 19.

The regulations of the Ghana Civil Aviation and International Civil Aviation (ICAO) enjoin member states to take effective measures to prevent the spread of communicable diseases through air travel.

The exercise, code-named “PANDEX OBAATANPA 2013”, will simulate a suspected passenger with an infectious communicable disease on board an arriving aircraft and the subsequent response by the various agencies which make up the Emergency Operations Control Group of GACL.

The Ghana Airports Company Limited has assured the general public and traveling public that though some areas of the Airport may be cordoned off for the duration of the exercise, normalcy would be restored at the earliest convenience.

“Any inconvenience caused to users of the airport as a result of the exercise is deeply regretted,” a statement from the GACL said.
