Ghana, Kenya explore tourism opportunities

elephantsThe Ghana Tourism Federation, Kenya Tourism Board  and Kenya Airlines have held a day’s forum to discuss issues affecting tourism in Ghana and to explore ways to improve tourism between the two countries.

The forum focused on marketing, packaging and promotional aspect of tourism in Ghana.

Mr David Nana Anim, President of the Ghana Tourism Federation, said Ghana’s promotional and marketing strategies over the last two years had not been impressive.

“Due to lack of funds, we decided to partner Non Governmental Organisations, countries and others who have managed to support marketing and promotional tourism,” he said.

He said the federation is in the process of packaging some of the attractions and introducing them to the various clubs in schools as a way of imparting knowledge to students about tourism.

Ms Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, said there was the need to identify Ghana’s strength and how to run with it, especially in terms of culture.

“In Kenya is Safari, therefore, what does Ghana have for the tourism sector?” she asked.

She said the ministry’s participation in the forum was a way of increasing effective communication with the people in the industry.

The Minister described the promotion of tourism as a social responsibility and, therefore, urged all individuals to help promote Ghana through culture.

Mr Fred Okeyo, Member of the Kenya Tourism Board, expressed worry about the West Gate Attack and expressed his condolence to the families who lost their love ones.

He commended stakeholders who had passion for developing tourism and urged them to continue with the good work.
