farmer_1Mr Apraku Lartey, Tano District Chief Executive (DCE) , in the Brong Ahafo Region, has advised farmers to collaborate with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) to improve on their productivity.

Mr Lartey, who was addressing the 29th National Farmers Day at Yamfo in the Tano North District, on Friday, urged farmers to move from the traditional subsistence farming to scientific and mechanised agriculture to enhance food production and the economic growth of the nation.

He advised the farmers to add value to their produce so that they could offer competitive prices.

Mr Ayisi Gyatango, District Director of MOFA appealed to defaulting farmers who received fertilisers on credit basis to pay back to sustain the programme.

He said it would not be in the best interest of MOFA to prosecute farmers in the law courts for defaulting in payment.

Madam Freda Prempeh, Member of Parliament for Tano North called on government to improve on the road network in the area for effective transportation and marketing of farm produce.

Mr Jacob Gyaw, a 52-year-old farmer from Bafokrom near Yamfo was adjudged the overall District Best Farmer for the year.

Mr Gyaw appealed to the government to assist farmers with loan facilities to improve and sustain their farming business.
