Police Command and Staff College holds maiden graduation

policeThe Police Administration is determined to sustain its effort at maintaining a paradigm shift in law enforcement activities from reactive to proactive policing to reduce crime.

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, said this at a graduation ceremony of Staff Duties Course 1 at the Ghana Police Command and Staff College, Winneba.

The graduates numbered 26 and comprised 20 men and six women and went through a five-week intensive training.

They were taken through disciplines including ethics in Criminal justice System, the Use of Force, rules and Conventions of Service writing, Presentation skills, Police role in Counter Insurgency, Leadership and Emotional intelligence.

Each of the officers received certificate of participation as well as special wards including undisclosed amount was given to the four best officers.

The Inspector General said policing called for more dedication and commitment in order to reverse the erosion of public confidence in their ability to engage in their duties with professionalism.

According to him, matters of abuse of authority and related unethical conduct, whether perceived or real, had continued to affect police relationship with the public and undermined public support in law enforcement activities.

The IGP said the police administration, over the years had been undertaking steps to provide excellent opportunities for professional development and improved capacities at the operational, tactical and strategic levels with the view to enhancing the quality of the Police Service.

He said the College Command and Directing staff have prepared the graduates very well but the rest is up to them, adding that their career and what they will become was in their own hands.

Chief Superintendent of Police Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, Acting Commandant of the College,  said it was the hope of the Command and Staff College that wherever the graduates would find themselves, the professionalism that had been imparted to them would be brought to bear in their day to day duties.

Nana Mprah Besamuna II, Krakyewura and a retired Commissioner of Police,  the Special Guest of Honor, Neenyi Ghartey VII, the Pparamount Chief of Effutu Traditional Area and Nii Epharim Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, were among personalities who presented certificates to the graduates.
