Assembly sets up revenue taskforce

cediThe Asante-Akim South District Assembly has set up a special taskforce to come up with effective strategies to improve on its revenue generation amid strong indications that its revenue target for the year is going to be achieved.

As at the close of October, it had collected GH¢181,608.45, representing 85 percent of the GH¢213,554.84 it had estimated for 2013.

Mr. De-graft Fokuo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said this should not make anybody complacent and that the assembly could do more and that new areas should be identified to strengthen its finances and “that is exactly what the taskforce would be doing.”

He was addressing a meeting of the assembly to approve its 2014 budget, consider new by-laws and to discuss the executive committee’s report.

Mr. Fokuo rallied the members to support revenue collection in their electoral areas to enable the assembly to bring development to the people.

He announced that contractors working on District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) projects had been paid monies owed them, paving way for the re-activation of stalled projects.

Part of its share of the DACF was being used to complete the Community Based Rural Development (CBRDP) projects, with the CBRDP having come to an end.

He told the meeting that the assembly had taken delivery of 200 streetlight bulbs which would soon be distributed to communities recently connected to the national grid.
