Businessman with fake GH¢50 notes in court

New cediIzi Yusif, a businessman who was arrested with fake GH¢50 notes, totaling GH¢97,300 was on Thursday remanded into prison custody by an Accra Circuit Court.

Yusif charged with possession of fake notes pleaded not guilty.

The court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri declined a bail application put in by Mr Kwame Afriyie on behalf of Yusif.

The accused person is expected to reappear on December 18.

Earlier Prosecuting Chief Inspector Joyce Ama Kuwornu prayed the court to remand Yusif to enable the Police conduct further investigations into the matter as well as arrest some accomplices.

The court therefore granted prosecution’s request.

The facts produced by prosecution were that acting on an Intelligence report Yusif was dealing in drugs; the Police proceeded to his house at Alajo in Accra.

During a search in Yusif’s room, fake GHC50 cedis notes totalling GH 97,300 cedis was found and during interrogation he said the money was given to him by one Adam for safe keeping.

Chief Inspector Kuwornu said the Police was conducting investigations to arrest the said Adams.
