Ghana’s amputee football team to miss 2013 Nations Cup

DisableThe National Amputee Football Team could miss the fourth edition of the Cup of Nations for Amputee Football (CANAF) in Kenya, due to lack of funds.

The National Amputee Football Association (NAFA) has over the past weeks been struggling to raise 58,000 dollars from the Ministry of Youth and Sports to aim their participation.

Information gathered by the GNA Sports indicates that, NAFA has been told by the Ministry of Youth and Sports that, the competition has not been budgeted for,  hence the difficulty in raising the required funds for the association to compete in the 2013 CANAF.

The Black Challenge, scheduled to travel to Kenya on Tuesday, December 3, ahead of the commencement of the competition on Thursday December 5, have been preparing for the tournament the last four weeks.

Rev. Richard Adesah, Chairman of NAFA told the GNA Sports that, the team is likely to opt out of the competition as efforts to raise funds from the corporate world had also proved futile.

Rev. Adesah described the situation as a neglect of person with disability. He said, the Association had been able to secure credit facilities from a Travel and Tours but will require a guarantee from the Ministry to process the deal.

He said that the Association had been in series of meeting with the Ministry to resolve the issue but added that, the last option would be to back out of the competition.

The National Amputee Football Team, placed second in the last competition held in 2011 in Ghana.
