Ghana’s Christian Council gets new Chairman

The Right Reverend Francis Amenu, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P) Church of Ghana, was inducted into office as the new Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) on Sunday.

He took over from Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, of the Methodist Church.

Rt Rev Amenu 61 said his prayer would be to remain “focused and committed to our joint goals of meeting the needs of all indiscriminately both within and outside the Church”.

He said his vision is: “For us to work purposefully towards building a strong, sustainable and cohesive Council.”

Rt Rev Amenu said there was need to find appropriate ways to make the many Local Council of Churches identify and work with the CCG to enhance the visibility of the Council, given its “critical and tactical role”, in the country.

“I call upon all our constituents to let us work collaboratively towards building a strong Council,” he said.

He assured government, civil society groups, traditional councils, the media and other faith based organisations that the CCG would work and collaborate with them to deal with the myriad challenges confronting the country.

Rt Rev Amenu, who trained as a Mining Engineer from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, holds a Master of Arts Degree in Sacred Theology, Indianapolis, USA and Certificate in German Language.

He was ordained as a full Reverend Minister of the E.P. Church in September 1987 after successfully serving two-years probation, when he completed pastoral studies at the Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon in September 1985.

Rt Rev Amenu who was elected as CCG Chairman at the Council’s Annual General meeting in April was presented with the constitution of the Council and a Bible as his symbols of office.

Very Reverend Japhet Yao Ledo former Moderator of the E.P. Church performed the induction ceremony on behalf of Most Reverend Professor Asante.
