Minister unhappy with lukewarm attitude of public servants

Job SeekersMr Ebenezer  Kwadwo Teye Addo, Western Regional Minister, has decried the lackadaisical attitude of some public servants towards work especially those posted to some deprived districts in the region.

He said some departmental heads leave their places of work on Friday afternoon for weekends at the urban centres and report to duty late afternoon on Mondays.

He said invariably such public servants work just three days within the week which do not ensure productivity and efficiency.

He has therefore, charged the district chief executives and coordinating directors in the region to monitor this negative trend and sanction those found culpable.

Mr Addo said this during a working visit to Sefwi-Akontombra District in the Region to familiarise himself with challenges and progress being made by the Assembly.

He said public servants are supposed to work five days in the week therefore anyone who goes contrary to the law should be punished as spelt out in the rules and regulations governing the Civil Service.

He pledged government’s commitment to complete the Akontobra/Sefwi-Wiawso and Akontombra/Sefwi-Bodi roads, as well as tarring the Akontombra township roads, the district capital, to boost economic activities.

Mr Addo implored the traditional authorities to assist the Assembly in the house numbering and street naming exercise.

He said the project would facilitate easy direction and collection of levies, tolls and property rates in order to enable the Assembly mobilise internally-generated funds to support infrastructural development.

The Chief of Akontombra, Nana Kwesi Kwarteng II, reiterated the need for public servants to stay in the town to work in order to ensure high productivity.

He said civil servants that are not prepared to work in the district should be transferred and replace with the committed ones.

He appealed to the government to upgrade Nsawura Health Centre into district hospital in order to serve the health needs of the people in the area.
