Set up regulatory body to manage education – Provost of University of Ghana

legon1The Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Kweku Osam, has suggested setting up of an independent national regulatory body to manage the education system.

He said the situation where politicians continued to change education duration especially in the SHS was not in the interest of Ghanaians.

Prof Osam made the suggestion when he addressed the 54th Speech and Prize-Giving Day celebration of the Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) at Agona Swedru.

He said the independent regulatory body would help to address some of the problems confronting education, adding that the time had come for Ghana to have reliable education that could accelerate its development.

He appealed to parents, guardians and caretakers to stop extravagant spending and rather invest heavily in their children’s education.

Prof Osam advised teachers to exhibit a high sense of professionalism to enable children to emulate them

Mrs Queenster Pokuah Sawyer, Deputy Central Regional Minister, assured management of SWESBUS that all stalled GETFund projects in the school would be completed.

Mr Samuel Afrifa Appiagyei, the Headmaster of the school, appealed to the government to provide it with enough dormitories and that the school was compelled to covert some classrooms into dormitories.
