WAFU tourney: Benin, Burkina share points

footballBurkina Faso put up a masterclass finish to force Benin to a 2-2 drawn game in their Group “A” 2013 GOTV WAFU fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi, on Thursday.

The match looked like heading the way of Benin until Burkina’s Francis Kabore struck in the 87th minute to snatch a point for his side.

It was Burkina who drew first blood in the 20th minute when Bassirou Ouedraogo took advantage of a defensive blunder to beat goalkeeper Allagbe Saturnin.

Benin rallied back strongly to restore parity as Suanon Fadel combined effectively with Durand Rock to score in the 40th minute.

Fadel was on target again in the 68th minute with a brilliant volley that saw goalkeeper Diarra Mohammed being beaten after he stretched to his elastic limit in an attempt to save the situation.

With Benin in the driving seat, the players seemed relaxed, forcing Burkina to attack them from all angles until Kabore punished them for sloppy marking late into the game.

Fadel, who emerged as man of the match was presented with a 500 US Dollar cash prize, while Burkina’s Kabore Issouf took home a mobile phone for winning the fair play award.
