Farmer jailed 21 years for defilement

prisonAn 18-year-old farmer at Huntado in the Atwima-Mponua District of the Ashanti Region has been sentenced to 21 years imprisonment in hard labour by the Nkawie Circuit Court for defilement.

Kwaku Addai, arraigned for defiling a 11-year-old school girl, was convicted after he pleaded guilty to the crime.

Police Chief Inspector Lawrence Ekow Hanson told the court, presided over by Mr William Boampong, that the offence was committed on August 13.

The victim was sleeping in an unlocked room with her younger sister when, the convict suddenly entered at about 0100 hours, gagged and sexually abused her.

She informed the parents about her terrible experience the next morning and a formal report was consequently made to the police.

The prosecution said a medical report signed by a doctor, who treated the girl confirmed that she had indeed been defiled.

The convict was arrested by the police after a man-hunt.
