President Mahama mourns with the Sawyerrs

President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, Tuesday evening visited the family of the late Harry Sawyerr to express their condolence on the ‘loss of the astute politician.’

They also signed the book of condolence in memory of the late National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart.

In a short speech at the Labone residence of the late Sawyerr, President Mahama described him as a man who had a fulfilled life and his death should be celebrated for the virtues he stood for.

“His death is not a loss to only the family, but the entire NDC family and the whole country because of his tremendous contribution to the building of this nation,” President Mahama said.

The programme was also attended by Ministers of state, Members of Parliament, NDC party executives and people from all walks of life.

President Mahama said as soon as the family concluded funeral arrangements, Government would collaborate with it to ensure that Harry Sawyerr was given a befitting burial and funeral.

He appealed to the family to take heart and accomplish some of the virtues the late politician had nurtured in the past.

Mr Sawyerr left behind a widow, Mrs Esther Sawyerr, and children.
