World Vision Ghana seeks tax waive on charity goods
World Vision Ghana (WVG), a Christian relief, development and advocacy organisation, dedicated to working with children, families and communities to eradicate poverty, has appealed to government to waive taxes on goods it imports for charity work.
Madam Modesta Dery, Coordinator of WVG in charge of Gifts in Kind (GIK), made the appeal in an interview with Ghana News Agency at Garu-Tempane.
She said GIK has donated products valued at $240,205.25 at Tolon in the Northern Region and Garu-Tempane District in Upper East Region.
The donation comprised 150 boxes of anti-malaria products to be distributed to health facilities.
Madam Dery said the taxes impose on the goods WVG imports are so high, making it impossible to bring in more items from overseas partners to assist the vulnerable.
Mr Martin Ayanoore, Development Facilitator of WVG at Garu-Tempane in charge of Water , Sanitation and Hygiene, said one of the core values of the organisation is to promote the welfare of children and women.
He said it is against this background that WVG supports health facilities with products such as de-wormers to support immunisation of pupils.
WVG had built two maternity health centres at Denugu and Basyonde in the District and provided mechanised boreholes to the people.
He said WVG through GIK had over the years supplied supplementary reading books to the area and wheel chairs to pupils with disabilities.
Mr Sachibu Mohammed Nashiru , Senior Executive Officer of the District Health Directorate said the medical products would go to facilities in dire need.
