The National Lottery Authority (NLA) on Thursday donated two power drill machines worth 33,800 Euros to the accident centre of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

Brigadier General Martin Ahiaglo, Director General of NLA said the donation was in response to an appeal made by the hospital to the Authority.

He said the accident centre is the biggest in Ghana with a huge patient burden which in most cases require intensive care or immediate surgery.

He said the NLA remains committed to uphold its social values by fulfilling its role as partner for national development.

Brig Ahiaglo urged Ghanaians with the legal age of 18 years and above to help accelerate national development by engaging in responsible gaming.

He said responsible gaming makes financial resources available for some lucky members of the society and the government to implement development programmes for the benefit of all.

“I will urge all those indulging in illegal lottery known as ‘Banker to Banker’ to also desist from this nation wrecking activity and resolve to play the lawful game which all Ghanaians are eventual winners,” he said.

Michael Segbefia, Head of Accident Centre at the Hospital said the facility recorded 5000 cases last year and the power drills would help the personnel to work fast and reduce overcrowding.

Reverend Albert Botchway, Acting Chief Administrator at Korle-Bu Hospital commended NLA for making the premier hospital as one of its source of investment.

He said the donation had come at the right time as the use of motorbikes for commercial purpose is increasing road casualties in the capital.

He said the donation would boost the morale of the staff at the centre to work harder by attending to more cases in a day.

He urged other corporate organisations to emulate the NLA gesture.

Rev Botchway also commended government for releasing $57 million for the retooling of the hospital.
