Court jails footballer for defilement
A Tarkwa circuit court has sentenced a 19 year-old footballer, Richard Annan to seven years imprisonment for defiling a 14 year-old student of Methodist Junior High school in Bogoso in the Western Region.
He was convicted on his own plea.
Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Edward Paddy told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant, Richard Asante is the father of the victim.
He said on October 15, around 1500 hours, the victim who was running an errand for the father did not return home.
Inspector Paddy said Mr Asante who was worried reported the matter to the Bogoso police.
He said on October 17, a Good Samaritan informed the complainant that he had seen the victim in Annan’s room at Atechem a suburb of Bogoso.
He said the complainant mobilised some friends and arrested the convict, while the victim was issued with a medical form for examination.
Inspector Paddy said medical personnel at the Wassa Akropong Government Hospital confirmed that the victim has been defiled.
