Winneba Police arrests 27 persons involved in violence

Ghana PoliceTwenty Seven people were arrested by the police suspected to be involved in violence that took place on October 5 at Gomoa Kweiekroom near Senya Beraku.

Twenty-one of them have been granted police inquiry bail after the police had screened them while the rest, who are believed to the leaders, are in police custody at Winneba, Superintendent of Police Rev John Oporku in-charge of Winneba District Police command, told the GNA in an interview.

He said Nana Kwei Ababio XIII, Odikro of the town, wrote for permit to enable him purify his stool and he was refused but he went ahead to do so as well as to install a Kyidomhen for the town on October 3.

SP Oporku said on that day he received information that there was installation of a chief at Gomoa Kweikroom and that if the police did not go there might be a clash between opposing factions.

He said a team of police personnel were dispatched to the town but on their arrival the event had already come to an end.

He said on October 5, the police had information that the Odikro had prepared to outdoor the Kyidomhen and there was a clash and two of the protesters were assaulted.

SP Oporku said they went to the place and arrested the suspects.
