Ghana gov’t to hold international LNG workshop
The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum (MoEP) in collaboration with Quantum Power Ghana Gas Ltd will hold a two-day international workshop on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) negotiations for stakeholders in the gas industry on September 26 and 27, 2013.
“Government believes that to raise living standards through industrialization and to become a regional electrical power hub for the West Africa sub-region, Ghana must supplement its indigenous gas production and supplies from Nigeria with LNG imports”, said a news release from MoEP copied to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday.
It said the Ministry was encouraging a creative private sector-led LNG solution for the country in which power generators could arrange imports of LNG to feed their businesses.
It added that Quantum Power Ghana Gas Ltd was currently developing LNG reception, storage, regasification and delivery infrastructure to support LNG imports by industrial scale gas users in Tema.
“The Ministry of Energy & Petroleum is providing concrete support to such private LNG initiatives in two ways. It is providing technical capacity-building for gas stakeholders. Additionally, in order to achieve the lowest possible priced LNG, the Ministry is engaging friendly LNG exporting Governments to support term LNG supply agreements to off-takers in Ghana”, the statement indicated.
It said the LNG workshop which will take place at Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, will be run by internationally recognized LNG experts who will lead discussions on global and Atlantic basin LNG markets, commercial and technical agreements involved in establishing an LNG supply chain, and key commercial and legal issues that drove LNG supply negotiations.
It mentioned the Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, as one of the prominent personalities who will address the Workshop.
