Egypt names ten foreign-based players for Ghana game

Egypt coach Bob Bradley has named ten foreign-based players for next month’s 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier playoff against Ghana in Kumasi.

The Black Stars will host the Pharaohs in the first part of the two-legged affair on Tuesday, October 15 at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Information gathered by GNA Sports indicates that Bradley has settled on the ten foreign-based players for the battle of Oseikrom.

The surprise inclusion is midfielder Mahmoud Abdel-Moneim ‘Kahraba’, a member of the Egypt U-20 squad that won the continental title at the expense of Ghana last April in Algeria. The 19-year old recently joined Swiss side Luzern after impressing also at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey last August.

Fans favourite Mohamed Salah has a place in the squad whilst Mohamed Nagy ‘Gedo’ makes a return to the team after recovering from injury.

The source told GNA Sports the local component  of the squad will be made public later in the week and is expected to be dominated by players from Al Ahly and Zamalek.

The Pharaohs are expected to hold a training camp from 26 September to 9 October whilst plans are ongoing to engage in two friendly games before departing for Kumasi.

The return leg will be played between 15-19 November, with the winner booking a place at next year’s World Cup in Brazil.

Strikers: Mohamed Nagy ‘Gedo’ (Hull City – England), Ahmed Hassan ‘Koka’ (Rio Ave FC – Portugal), Mohamed Salah (Basel – Switzerland), Amr Zaki (Al-Salmiya – Kuwait).
