Prototype offices for new District Assemblies unveiled

Mr Akwasi Opong-Fosu, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development on Tuesday unveiled prototype offices for the 46 newly created district assemblies.

At the unveiling ceremony in Accra, Mr Opong-Fosu said in 2010, government established a committee to resolve the accommodation problems of newly created assemblies.

Akuffo and Associate was tasked to produce the prototype offices.

Mr Stephen Akuffo of Akuffo and Associate, who presented the prototype office drawings to the public, said the cost of putting up a single district assembly office complex would range between GH¢1 million to GH¢1.6 million.

He explained that the designing took into account fast-track construction methods, cost of construction materials, among other factors.

Mr Akuffo said the designs are disability friendly.

Each office complex consists of offices, a conference hall, two multi-purpose halls, a large car park and enough land space for future expansion.

Mr Akuffo said provisions were made for rain water harvesting and solar panels to supply electricity.

Mr Paul Victor Obeng, Senior Advisor to the President and Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, who chaired the function, commended the Ministry for coming out with the prototype office complex project.

The newly created assemblies include La Dade-Kotopon, Kpong Katamanso, La Nkwantanang Madina, Nii Okaiman, Ningo Prampram, Shai Osudoku, Ada West, and Ada East in the Greater Accra Region.

Those from the Central Region are Kasoa, Ekumfi, Hemang Lower Denkyira and Awutu Senya East.

The Northern Region comprise Mion, Daboya, Sanelugu, Kumbugu, Tatale/Sangule and Mamprugu/Madugu, while Upper East and Upper West Regions are made up of Nandom, Kaleo and Binduri.

Asokore Mampong Municipality and Agogo District are in the Ashanti Region.

Those in the Eastern Region are Denkyembour, Kwahu Afram Plains South, Ayensuano District, Nsawam, Upper West Akim and Akuapim South Districts.

The Brong- Ahafo Region has Asutifi South, Sene East now called Sene West, Dormaa West, Banda and Bassa Districts.

From the Volta Region the assemblies captured are Akatsi North, Afadzato South, Adaklu, North Tongu, Central Tongu, Kpando, North Dayi, Ketu, Krachi Nchumuru and Ho West.

The Western Region has Bia East, Amenfi Central, Mpohor, Bodi and Suaman Districts.
