Newmont Mining Corporation has again been named in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World).

This is the seventh consecutive time that the miner with operations in Ghana has been reselected. It is the first gold mining company to be selected into the index.

The 2013 DJSI World is Dow Jones’ premier sustainability index which includes 333 global companies identified as leaders in the areas of sustainable economic, environmental and social performance.

The index tracks the performance of 2,500 leading companies worldwide, independently evaluating their long-term economic, environmental and social performance. The top 10 per cent of performers are selected from among 59 industry groups.

“I am pleased once again, that our employees have demonstrated commitment to our vision, mission and values, which again has led to the recognition from such a reputable, independent organisation as the DJSI World,” Newmont’s Regional Senior Vice President for Africa Operations, Dave Schummer said in a statement September 13, 2013.

Mr Schummer thanked Newmont Ghana’s employees and those from other Newmont operations around the world for collaborating with stakeholders to increase the shared value created through the miner’s our operations.

He added that Newmont Ghana is committed to high environmental practices, safety measures, and social responsibility as the company strives to be the most valued and respected mining company through industry leading performance.
