Ghana commends Austria for long relations

The Minister of Trade Haruna Iddrisu on Thursday commended Austria for sustaining the bilateral trade relations between the two countries over the years.

He said the government of Ghana was determined to create an enabling environment that would promote trade, adding “Our focus is to spur the sustainable growth of the economy”.

The Trade Minister made the commendation when a delegation from the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber called on him in Accra.

The high-ranking delegation of Austrian companies headed by the President of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, Dr. Christoph Leitl, are in the country to hold an Austrian-Ghana Business forum to be organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Ghana, the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC).

The Minister praised the Austrians for the tremendous input in helping Ghana to expand the health facilities in the districts of some selected regions and called for more expansion in the Western and Brong Ahafo regions.

“We will be glad if you can build eight more district hospitals in these two regions to help expand quality health service delivery to our people, especially women and children to meet the millennium Development Goals, which have almost two years to go”.

He made a special request for Austria to build a 400-600 bed regional hospital for the Western Region where there is oil discovery to meet the challenges of health care that may arise due to the influx of population as a result of the oil.

On Renewable Energy, Mr Iddrisu invited the Austria Energy Globe Foundation to make Ghana the centre of its energy conservation programme in Africa and assured there would no problems with their security.

Dr. Christoph Leitl said Austria had a philosophy of maintaining long standing business relations and foster bilateral trade relations and assured Ghana of assistance in improving the trade industry and the health systems.
