Akrokerri College admits 830 teachers

A total of 830 untrained teachers have been admitted at the Akrokerri College of Education for untrained teachers diploma in basic education (UTDBE) Programme for this academic year.

The UTDBE programme is designed to offer opportunity to untrained teachers in basic schools to obtain professional knowledge in subjects taught in the schools.

The trainees were from Amansi West, Sekyere South, Bosomtwe, Adansi North, Adansi South, Amansie Central and Atwima Kwanwoma Districts.

Others were from Kumasi Metro, Obuasi Municipal, Mampong Municipal, Bekwai Municipal and Atwima Nwabiagya District.

Mr. Samuel Ansah, Director, Teacher Education in the Ghana Education Service (GES), commended the college for being the leader as far as the training of teachers in basic education was concerned.

He said the Teacher Education Division was committed to assist teachers in the system to develop professionally.

“It is in this vein that we agitated for the second cohort of the UTDBE programme,” he said.

The Principal of the College, Dr. Emmanuel Kwasi Asiedu, drew the attention of the trainees to the high profile status of the college as one of excellence and therefore urged them to be disciplined.

Dr. Asiedu added “do not just pass through the college but let the college also pass through you” and commended them for fast integrating themselves into the college life.
