Police deploys 500 personnel for Ghana-Zambia clash

Ghana PoliceOver 500 security personnel will be deployed to provide safety when Ghana clash Zambia in the 2014 Group D World Cup qualifier at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi on Friday.

Saka Acquaye, Ashanti Regional Director of Sports, told GNA Sports that the personnel are drawn from the Ghana Police Service and the Army to provide security before, during and after the game.

He said that some 80 fire-fighters backed by fire engines as well as a medical team from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have also been penciled for the game Ghana must draw to book a place at the next round of the qualifiers.

The Regional Director said adequate measures had been made to ensure safety for patrons expected to fill  the 42,000-plus capacity arena.

Acquaye said arrangements had also been made for uninterrupted power supply with stand-by generators for any power failure, in their quest to avoid the April 30, 2012, embarrassing blackout that almost marred the Ghana-Lesotho qualifier.

The Stadium was envelope by darkness for almost 45 minutes when floodlights failed to lit-up due to a technical hitch.

The Black Stars require a draw to keep their hold in the group and advance to the final round.
