Gyan suffers ‘minor’ injury during Ghana training ahead of Zambian game

Ghana captain Asamaoh Gyan is battling fitness ahead of Friday’s 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zambia in Kumasi.

The 27-year old limped off during the latter stages of the Stars training session held Tuesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Gyan, yet to gain his best status for the past few weeks passed a late fitness test before his inclusion for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Super Cup between his club Ain and Al Ahli last Friday, which the latter won 3-2 on a penalties.

Head coach Kwasi Appiah told GNA Sports that the striker will be observed by the medical staff before reaching a decision.

“He complained to me that he was suffering from some pains. I have directed the medical team to attend to him.

“It is early days yet to decide on his participation for the game against Zambia. We can only make a decision after the report by the medical team.”

The Stars trainer is hopeful the injury will be one his key player upfront can shake-off before the game.

Options for the Stars attack include Kevin-Prince Boateng, Abdul Majeed Warris and Mahatma Otoo.

The Stars need at least a draw against the Chipolopolos to reach the final round of the continental qualifiers for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
