Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman, Minister of Education, said Ghana has a very good educational system, which endear the nation to most countries around the world.

She said in spite of the many challenges facing the country’s educational sector, “we still have a system to be proud of and make it better”.

The Minister, therefore, called on all to make education the true cornerstone for national development.

Prof Opoku Agyeman was addressing heads of senior high schools at the 51st Annual Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) at Oyoko in the New Juaben Municipality.

She said Ghana had trained excellent persons in all the professions and many students had gone to schools abroad that are highly rated and still excel.

“Sometimes even those we have graded as average have gone to places that are deemed to have stronger systems and they have beaten their counterparts from other countries,” she said.

Prof Opoku Agyeman eulogised the heads of the secondary institutions for their hard work in sustaining excellence in secondary education, which had produced high quality adults occupying key positions in the nation and around the globe.

She, however, implored them to devote time and energy to discuss more relevant policies at the pre-tertiary level and to come out with suggestions that would help the government to formulate useful policies.

Prof Opoku Agyeman tasked the heads to be committed to the implementation of existing and upcoming policies of education to enable Ghana to attain her development desires.

She reiterated government’s commitment to fulfil its promise of improving the secondary school education.
