Glo Ghana suffers heaviest fine in latest sanctions on telecoms operators

Glo1Globacom Ghana has been given the heaviest fine for poor services delivery. A total amount of GH¢450,000 new fines have been imposed on five of the six telecoms operators in Ghana except Vodafone.

In a report issued by the regulator, the National Communications Authority (NCA), five of the six operators namely, MTN, Airtel, Tigo, Glo and Expresso failed to render quality service in 28 areas and towns during the second quarter of the year.

The areas were Accra, Tema, Tamale, Yendi, Wa, Jirapa, Nandom, Bolgatanga, Bawku, Aflao, Denu, Anloga, Keta, Ho, Hohoe, Kpando, Jasikan, Asamankese, Akim Oda, Akosombo, Suhum, Koforidua, Swedru, Winneba, Cape Coast, Elmina, Takoradi and Tarkwa.

Glo Mobile received the highest fine amounting to GH₵200,000 for defaulting Call Setup Time, Call Completion and Signalling Congestion obligations in the Central and Western Regions.

MTN was fined GH₵100, 000 for defaulting in Call Setup Time obligation in the Central and Western Regions while Tigo had GH₵50,000 for also defaulting in Call Congestion obligations in the Central Region.

Airtel was sanctioned GH₵100, 000 for defaulting in Call Congestion and Call Setup in the Central and Western Regions respectively.

For Expresso’s punishment, the NCA told the operator to build cell sites in Kasoa in the Central region and Essikado in the Western region for defaulting Call Congestion in both regions.

Vodafone remained compliant to all the licence obligations in the month of June, says the NCA.

The NCA report measured the quality of service provided by the operators based on four factors – Stand-alone Dedicated Control Channel (SDCCH) Congestion Rate; Call Setup Time (CST); Call Congestion Rate; and Call Drop Rate (CDR).

    eXCELLENT JUDGEMENT AND IS ABOUT TIME CONSUMERS ARE PROTECTED. THEY SHOULD BE WELL TAX AND RESTRICT THE AMOUNT F FOREIGN DOLLARS TAKEN OUT OF THE COUNTRY AT THE BACK A=OF SWEAT OF POOR GHANAIANS
