Motor rider killed in freak crash

A 35-year- old motor rider has been killed in a freak  road crash in broad day light at Nobewam on the Kumasi-Accra Highway.

The deceased, Thomas Ansah an employee of the White Rock Mining Company at Odumasi, was run over by an articulated truck, loaded with about 800 bags of cement, after he hit a stationary school bus parked on the shoulders of the road with his bike.

He attempted to overtake the bus and in the process crashed into the rear, hurled into the path of the on-coming truck and got smashed in the mid-section.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Augustine Mensah, Konongo Divisional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit confirmed the accident to the Ghana News Agency and said investigations are underway.

The truck’s driver, Mohammed Sumaila, had already given a caution statement to the police.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital’s mortuary for autopsy.
