Judiciary puts restriction on accreditation for judgement day

The Supreme Court has said accreditation for the judgment day of the Election Petition on August 29, shall be restricted only to parties in the case- the bar,  media and representatives of the security agencies.

A statement signed by Justice Alex B. Poku-Acheampong, Judicial Secretary, and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday said, the decision was taken to ensure that security at the Court premises and inside the courtroom is not compromised.

It said in this regard the existing accreditation cards, which have been in used since the case began are no longer valid.

The statement said the public is advised to stay away from the premises of the Court on the judgement day and follow the proceedings through television and radio sets.

It said all party functionaries, former and current ministers of state, former and current parliamentarians who wish to attend, should contact their party headquarters for accreditation.

It said media houses already accredited should renew their accreditation with an official letter bearing the name of the Reporter and/or Cameraman who have been assigned as well as their Staff IDs adding that these should be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Communications of the Judicial Service.

The statement said visitors on that day are to note that, seats in the court room would be numbered to correspond with the number on the accreditation cards and are requested to cross-check the number on their cards against their seat numbers.

It said parking of vehicles at the Court premises would be restricted so that accredited persons could use other car parks on the High Street.
