Mr Patrick Victor Obeng, a Senior Presidential Adviser, has called on Ghanaians to ensure that the outcome of the election petition case before the Supreme Court would unite the country more than ever.

He said Ghanaians should see themselves as one people with a common destiny and not allow election to divide them to create political upheaval, similar to what happened in other countries.

Mr Obeng said the New Patriotic Party, which was not satisfied with the 2012 Presidential election results, petitioned the Supreme Court, hence the need for all political parties to accept the verdict to ensure peace.

Mr Obeng made the call at the induction service for Revered Dr Samuel Ayete-Nyampong the 13th Clerk of General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, during the 13th General Assembly meeting held at Abetifi in Kwahu, in the Eastern Region.

The event held on the theme: “The Fruit of the Holy Spirit and the believer,” was attended by the clergy, the laity and other members of the church.

Mr Obeng said politicians have a common objective as Christian leaders to develop the country.

He advised Christians to pray for politicians for God to grant them the Holy Spirit to direct them in their endeavours.

Rt Rev Professor Emmanuel Martey, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, called on Ghanaians to intensify their prayers to ensure the sustenance of peace and tranquillity in the country, especially after the Supreme Court delivers its judgment on the election petition.

He urged Ghanaians, particularly Christians to make personal vows with God not to derail the peace.

The Moderator cautioned Ghanaians to be careful in their dealings and utterances particularly when the nation is waiting for the outcome of the election petition.

He said it is time for the country to channel its resources to areas that could bring growth and development and therefore called on the citizenry to stand for peace and progress.

The Moderator, advised the newly elected Clerk to sow seeds of evangelism and love among the congregation.

Rev Ayete-Nyampong applauded Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces and other security agencies for their preparation to maintain peace during and after the Supreme Court verdict.

Rev Ayete-Nyampong, who was elected, last year during the 12th General Assembly of the Church at Abetifi thanked the church for the confidence reposed in him.

He gave the assurance that he would contribute to the growth of the church.

Rev Ayete-Nyampong is a theologian scholar at Aberdeen University, Scotland, where he obtained his doctorate degree.
