Man in court for robbery

law-and-justiceDavid Anokye, alias Owuraku Taller, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for robbery contrary to section 149 of the Criminal Offences Act 29 (1960).

David was said to have committed the robbery at Achimota in the Greater Accra Region.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence, but was remanded into prison custody to reappear on September 2.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patrick Morkeh said the complainants are policemen stationed at the Regional Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service in Accra.

He said somewhere in July 2009, a group of armed robbers including the accused attacked a house at Achimota and robbed Nanese Maserbe a Sri Lankan National of his personal property and cash to the sum of $34,000.

DSP Morkeh said in the same year one George Ayitey, Stanley Kuwornu, and Dogbe alias shoutie were arrested as suspects in the case and are now standing trial at an Accra Circuit Court.

He said the police received information on August 9, that the accused was hiding in a house at Asaman Tamfo a village near Anyinam.

The prosecution told the court that upon the information a team of policemen led by Deputy Corporal Davis Adongo were dispatched to the village and the accused was arrested.
