Ghanaians urged to act as true citizens

crowd2The Human Development Coordinator of the Navrongo- Bolgatanga Diocese of the Catholic Church, Mr Joseph Ayembilla, has appealed to Ghanaians to act wisely when the Supreme Court passes its verdict on the Election 2012 petition.
He said the common enemy Ghanaians needed to pray against was poverty, illiteracy and diseases and rejected supposed prophesies by some pastors about possible dangers when the verdict is pronounced.

Mr Ayembilla said this at a forum to sensitize the public on the need to sustain the peace, especially in northern Ghana, after the Supreme Court’s verdict.
He appealed to Ghanaians to remain calm, peaceful and accept the verdict of the Court.
The Forum was jointly organised by the Centre for Alternative Development (CENFAD), BElim Wusa Development Association (BEWDA-Ghana) the Community Development and Advocacy Centre (CODAC) with sponsorship from STAR-Ghana.

The theme for the forum was: “Peace, a Gateway for National Integration and Development” and brought together political party representatives, women’s groups, representatives of people with disability, Heads of Departments, officials of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and journalists.
Mr Ayembilla thanked all players in the election petition for the professional manner they conducted themselves and said it was important as a people to understand that guns had no role to play in changing leadership but the power of the thumb.
Mr Kenneth Adabayire, Regional Director of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), said peace and justice were the bedrock for national development and integration.

Mr Eric Amoh, Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), said the media had a significant role to play in all facets of national development.

He said the manner the media packaged its message to Ghanaians was crucial as they waited for the outcome of the petition and called on media practitioners to refrain from promoting any unhealthy and deceitful actions perpetuated by politicians.
Mr Amoh expressed confidence that when media practitioners were steadfast in playing their roles, they could win the trust of the people.
