Assemblies urged to collaborate in waste management

waste 3Mr Francis Abotsi, Volta Regional Director of Environmental Health, has appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies to collaborate in waste management.
He said experience had shown that no Assembly could singlehandedly manage waste efficiently except through partnership.

Mr Abotsi told the GNA in an interview that “we cannot keep doing the same thing and expect a different result. Our Assemblies are unable to manage waste individually. They have to join forces to get somewhere.”
Mr Abotsi said lack of waste disposal sites, a major challenge to waste disposal, is one area where the Assemblies could fall on each other to solve.

He said such collaboration could promote recycling and reduce cost of waste disposal.
“We do not have waste anymore in sanitation. What we have is Material in Transition (MIT) and our Assemblies must be working towards that,” he said.
