Lancaster University Ghana appoints Provost

GraduationLancaster University has appointed Dr John Grainger as Provost of its new campus in Ghana and will assume office in September.

A statement signed by Mr Cyril Quansah-Quainoo, Corporate Communiations Strategists, Lancaster University, Ghana, said Professor Mark E. Smith, Vice-Chancellor of Lancaster University welcomed the new provost:

The statement said: “The appointment of Dr Grainger is an important step in the establishment of Lancaster University Ghana which will contribute to increasing the pool of internationally educated young people; ready to take their places in developing and growing the Ghanaian and wider African economy.

“It will also offer students a different learning experience, with the future career benefits of gaining a globally recognised Lancaster degree.”

It said Dr Grainger is an accomplished academic and education administrator who until recently Pro Vice Chancellor at Murdoch University in Dubai.

The statement said the Accra-based branch campus is committed to producing graduates who have the skills and knowledge to meet Ghana’s industrial, societal and governmental needs.

It said Lancaster University is currently working with the National Accreditation Board to secure its accreditation with the aim to admit students as soon as possible, which could be as early as October 2013.

The statement said the University will be offering its foundation programme in October 2013, and students who enroll in this programme will continue their undergraduate studies in October 2014.

It said Dr Grainger will continue in his role as President of Trans National Education Ghana Limited as Provost, and will be the new university’s chief academic officer.

The statement said he will be responsible for launching Lancaster University’s academy in Ghana, developing research, overseeing staff development and ensuring a high value student experience.

The statement said Dr John Grainger said he was looking forward to the new role: “Lancaster University has earned an enviable global reputation for exceeding student expectations of quality service delivery in the UK and abroad and students at the Accra campus will benefit from the same exceptional standards. We offer first-class facilities, a convivial environment and commitment to unswerving student focus.

“Lancaster University’s presence in Ghana will extend the opportunities for students of all ages across West Africa to earn a world-class degree close to home and within the support structure of parents, friends and relatives,” the statement said.

It Dr Grainger is a graduate of Murdoch University, Perth, earned degrees in Psychology and Education prior to gaining his Master’s and Doctorate in Business Administration.
