Police dispatch rider in a road crash

The security agencies nationwide route march for peace in Sunyani was nearly marred when a police dispatch rider was involved in a terrible accident on Wednesday.

The dispatch rider, only known as Officer Frank, alias “Tico”, was rushed to the Brong-Ahafo Regional Hospital where he is responding to treatment.

It occurred on the main road around the Sunyani Municipal Hospital at 0730 hours when a goat crossed the rider, who subsequently lost control and somersaulted.

The accident attracted the attention of many onlookers and traders who abandoned their shops and wares to catch a glimpse.

The 500 contingent made up of the Military, Police, Ghana National Fire Service, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority and Ghana Immigration Service embarked on a peace march through some principal streets of the Municipality.

Led by Major Joseph Kelvin Medeama, Commander Rear, Third Garrison Battalion and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Robert Ayalingo, Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Commander, the security personnel marched from the VRA main road, through Fiapre roundabout and converged at the Jubilee Park.

Addressing them, Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister appealed to Ghanaians to accept the verdict of the Supreme Court on the Election 2012 Petition.

He said it was the responsibility of all Ghanaians to defend the 1992 Constitution.

Mr Aidoo, who is also the Member of Parliament for Sefwi Wiawso, asked the security personnel to continue to exhibit a high sense of professionalism in the course of their national duties.

DCOP Ayalingo explained that the Police was ever ready to act swiftly to avert any clash which might emanate as a result of the Supreme Court’s ruling.

He appealed to the general public to be vigilant and report any trouble maker to the police for the necessary action.

Major Medeama entreated Ghanaians to hold their peace as the security agencies were prepared to deal with trouble makers.
