Nanumba–South confirms DCE

voter2Alhaji Amidu Seidu, the President’s nominee was on Tuesday confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Nanumba South District Assembly in the Northern Region.

Alhaji Seidu secured 27 votes representing 69 per cent out of the total votes cast. In all 39 assembly members voted.

The election was supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC), which was represented by Mr Sylvester Kanyi, Northern Regional Director and Mr Daliri Kwabena, Nanumba South District Director of the EC respectively.

This is the second time that Alhaji Sedu has secured the mandate as DCE for Nanumba South after serving a first four-year term from 2009 to 2013. His nomination however attracted some agitation in the district.

In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Seidu thanked the President for the confidence he had reposed in him and gave the assurance that he would work harder to justify his re-nomination.

He indicated that he would run an open door administration to improve the performance of the Internally Generated Fund (IGF) of the district and that roads, water, electricity, education, health and agriculture were his primary priorities.

He apologized to all those he had offended and entreated all and sundry to help improve the peace and security of the district to promote development.

Prior to the elections, Mr Bede Ziedeng, the Northern Regional Minister made a call on assembly members to give a 100 per cent approval of the President’s appointee, saying “Alhaji Seidu is a devoted person who has the capacity to discharge his duties. It is in this regard that the President has re-appointed him”.

Mr Ziedeng advised the assembly members not to follow the trend in other districts by rejecting Alhaji Seidu but support the nominee overwhelmingly.
