Muslims mark Eid-Ul-Fitr

MuslimsMuslims across the country said prayers on Thursday to mark the end of their fasting period of Ramadan.

In Accra, the Ahlussunna Wal-Jamaa said their prayers at the Efua Sutherland Children Park.

Alhaji Rashid Pelpo, Minister of State in the Office of the President, reiterated the government commitment to ensure peace in the country.

He said peace is a pre-requisite for development and that Ghanaians must continue to preach and remain ambassadors of peace to attract investors into the country.

Alhaji Pelpo spoke about the election petition before the Supreme Court and said the security services are putting measures in place to deal with any that might occur when the verdict is pronounced.

Alhaji Pelpo said the government had started making preparations towards the Hajj and there would be a hitch-free pilgrimage.

Sheik Umar Ibrahim, National Chief Imam of Ahlussunna, said Muslim communities in the country needed education infrastructure.

He said it is not only Arabic schools that are needed in Muslim and Zongo communities but also needed infrastructure to go through formal education.

Sheik Ibrahim later unveiled a plaque to launch the start of a construction of a hostel facility at Ashalebotwe, a suburb of Accra, for the Ahlussunna Wal-Jamaa.

Sheik Khalid Abdallah Al-Hamoudi, Imam of the Mosque of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, led the congregation in prayer.
