Road accident deaths decreases

accidentStatistics released by the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) on road traffic crashes indicates that 492 deaths were recorded from April and June with 3,333 injuries.

The statistics made available to the Ghana News Agency in Accra by the NRSC on Tuesday revealed that the figures as compared to 2012, decreased by 2.21 per cent while fatalities also reduced by 15.03 per cent. Persons injured also fell by 4.80 per cent.

According to the statistics, there was an increase in the number of vehicles involved in crashes by 0.28 per cent from January to June, with a decrease in reported fatalities by 2. 19 per cent and injuries by 7.21 per cent.

It said national fatality projection of 930 for the period January to June was exceeded by 10.97 per cent.

Central Region recorded 110.88 per cent, Northern Region, 27.43 per cent, Upper West, 50.00 per cent, Upper East, 68.42 per cent, Eastern Region, 4. 17 per cent, Western Region, 14. 67 per cent and Brong Ahafo Region 69.23 per cent.

It said the increases in Central, Brong Ahafo, Upper West, Upper East and Northern Regions were attributable to the recent crashes of high occupancy buses.

The Greater Accra, made reductions in projected fatalities by 7.42 per cent, Ashanti Region 36.92 per cent and Volta Region 4.69 per cent.
