mtnTwo employees of telecoms company MTN-Ghana on Friday appeared before a Half Assini Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing assorted items belonging to the company.

They are Solomon Tayi, 25, Branch Manager, and Semana Asumana Banda, 18, a cleaner.

They pleaded not guilty to the offence and would reappear on August 26.

The court presided over by Mr. Hans Kofi Kpogo, granted the two accused persons bail in the sum of GH¢10,000 each with two sureties.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector, Paul Annaman, said on Wednesday June 26, this year, Tayi, who was the branch manager of MTN Office  at Half Assini, reported to the police that a cash amount of GH¢6,509.77 and some items had been stolen from the Office the previous night.

The stolen items included 5,972 pieces of MTN voucher airtime cards of different denominations, 233 and 2 pieces of Sim cards and transfer cards respectively, and 13 pieces of MTN modems, all totalling GH¢15,644.28.

The prosecutor said Tayi indicated in his caution statement that he did not lock the inner room and also forgot to keep the day’s sales in the cabinet before closing the Office the previous day.
