Energy crisis almost over, economic challenges will be fixed – President Mahama

John MahamaPresident John Dramani Mahama on Friday gave the assurance that government is up to the task of making Ghanaians comfortable although the first half of the year experienced some turbulence.

He attributed the turbulence to the energy crises and economic challenges.

President Mahama said while the energy challenges are almost over, the economy would also be fixed for the benefit of all.

He gave the assurance when he addressed a meeting of members of the Council of State at the Peduase Lodge in the Eastern Region, which was also attended by Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur.

It was the first time President Mahama attended the meeting of the Council, which was inaugurated early this year.

President Mahama appealed to members of the Council to advise him on the reality on the ground for him to take the appropriate and necessary measures that would enhance the growth and development of the country.

He said the economy is somewhat derailed by wage negotiations but government is focused to take all recovery measures that would place it on a sound footing.

Mrs Cecilia Johnson, Chairperson of the Council, commended President Mahama for placing Ghana on the international scene, particularly his recognition at the recent G8 Summit held at the United Kingdom.

She also commended government for initiating tight security measures that had resulted in combating and reducing crime for the first half of the year.

Mrs Johnson appealed to the security services to maintain their balance throughout the year.

She asked President Mahama to take measures that would eliminate corruption and unemployment.

Mrs Johnson said the Council had so far met a lot of Ministries, Departments and Agencies to acquaint themselves with their performance and challenges and at the appropriate time recommendations would be made to government for attention.
