President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday called on Ghanaians to rededicate themselves to the achievement of the vision of late President John Evans Atta Mills.

He said the late President stood for peace, truth, honesty and sincerity and the adherence to such virtues would help in the actualisation of his vision in the coming years

President Mahama said this during a wreath laying ceremony to mark the one year anniversary of the late President at the Asomdwe Park at the Castle, Osu in Accra.

“Let us rededicate ourselves for peace, justice, non-partisanship in ethnic and religious issues,” President Mahama said.

On July 24, last year, the country was thrown into the state of shock and mourning when news broke about the death of the President Mills.

It was even more devastating and historical as the country for once experienced the death of serving President of the land.

The programme was also attended by Dr Mrs Ernestina Naadu Mills, former First Lady, Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Ammissah-Arthur and his spouse and former President Jerry John Rawlings.

Also in attendance were Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, the Clergy, Traditional Rulers, Members of the Diplomatic Corps and politicians from all walks of life.

President Mahama said late President Mills demonstrated decency in politics, which would continue to serve as a reference point for unity and total commitment for nation-building.

“I see the late President as my mentor, father, comrade, friend and above all a sincere and honest leader.”

President Mahama laid the first wreath on behalf of government and  the people of Ghana, Mrs Naadu Mills laid another in memory of his late husband, Dr Cadman Mills on behalf of the deceased family and Mr Edward Doe-Adjaho, Speaker of Parliament on behalf the Legislature.

The rest are: Mrs Georgina Theodora Wood on behalf of the Judiciary, Vice Admiral Matthew Quarshie on behalf of personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces and sister security services and Nii Okwei Dowuona VI as the landlord of the Asomdwe Park.
