Farmer jailed for stealing GH¢1,000 artificial hair

prisonThe Juaso Circuit Court presided over by Mr Alex Obeng Asante has sentenced a farmer to two years imprisonment for stealing artificial hair.

Kofi Poku, 46, together with his accomplice Yaw Bempong, now on the run, broke into a kiosk at Obogu in the Asante-Akim South District and stole 152 pieces of artificial hair valued at GH¢1,040.00, on July 15, 2013.

He pleaded guilty to the charges of conspiracy to commit crime and stealing.

Police Inspector Emmanuel Ofori told the court that the complainant, Eunice Asante, is a trader in hair accessories.

He said she locked her kiosk after the close of business and returned the next morning to discover that it had been broken into, and some of her items stolen.

The prosecution said the lady later received information that the convict had gone to Saabo, a nearby community, to sell the stolen hair, hence a formal report was made to the police.

He was subsequently arrested and admitted the crime in his caution statement.
