Businessman jailed for fraud, impersonation

prisonHalf Assini Magistrate’s court on Monday jailed Isaac Bonso,  a 39-year-old businessman,  for 12 months in hard labour for impersonation and defrauding by false pretence.

He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Paul Anaman, told the court presided over by Mr. Hans Kofi Kpogo that Bonso, posed as a quantity surveyor of a Chinese Construction company constructing the Agona Nkwanta/Elubo highway.

Chief Insp Anaman said Bonso convinced 14 home owners whose buildings had been earmarked for demolition at Mpataba and Mpim in the Jomoro District that he could assist them to get better compensation from the Land Valuation Authority.

Prosecution said Bonso managed to dupe each person of GHc200, and went into hiding but was arrested by the police upon a tip-off.

Chief Insp. Anaman said when the convict was arrested; the police retrieved two identity cards bearing the name Isaac Newton, a plumber and pipe fitter with Baker Hughes Company in Takoradi.
