Court remands drug peddler

law-and-justiceThe Juaso Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Alex Obeng Asante, has remanded into prison custody, a 55 year-old drug peddler at Konongo for possessing a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine.

Akwasi Adusei was caught by the Police with the whitish substance and 81 wraps of dried leaves, believed to be cannabis, on July 9.

His plea was not taken and he was ordered to re-appear on July 25.

Police Chief Inspector Joseph Obeng told the court that Adusei was arrested at Konongo-Ahenbronum at about 2045 hours following a tip-off.

He said the substances had been concealed in a polythene bag in his room and uncovered during a search.

Adusei was sent together with the exhibits to the Police Station, where in his caution statement, denied ownership of the suspected narcotic drugs.

The prosecution said samples had been sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory in Accra for examination.
