Akatsi-South District fails to endorse DCE

voterThe endorsement of Mr Daniel Dagba as the Akatsi South District Chief Executive has been differed to Thursday, July 18, 2013.

This followed his failure to secure the two-thirds majority of the 38 Member Assembly in the first round of voting for his endorsement, on Monday, at Akatsi.

In the poll, conducted by officials of the Electoral Commission, Mr. Dagba, 42, a tutor, secured 24 votes and 14 against or (63.15) per cent, less than the required 65 per cent to guarantee him the two-thirds majority.

Nii Joseph Laryear Afotey-Agbo, Volta Regional Minister, who was present at the function, had earlier appealed to the people at the tension packed venue to exercise restraint for the smooth flow of the programme.

He told the GNA that the people were not in disagreement with the President’s nominee, except that some of the members claimed they were not consulted in the selection process.

He said stakeholders will be meeting for a peaceful resolution ahead of Thursday’s exercise.

Meanwhile, the election of a Presiding Member, which was to precede the nominee’s endorsement, was also postponed indefinitely because of time constraints.
