Sports Authority needs GH¢2.5m for Unity Games – DG

Accra Sports StadiumThe National Sports Authority (NSA) will need GH¢2.5 million to organise the 2013 National Unity Games, fixed for August 11-18, in Kumasi.

The amount covers cost of organisation for over 3000 athletes across the country.

Alice Attipoe, Acting Director-General of the NSA told GNA Sports her outfit expects GH¢5 million from government and hope to raise a further GH¢1 million from corporate sponsorship.

“Though we are yet to receive any form of sponsorship from any of the companies we have approached, i am confident we will be able to make a break through by the close of the month.”

Selected sporting disciplines will use the event to intensify preparations for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Eleven disciplines will be staged plus two other exhibition events.

They include, Boxing, Athletics, Table Tennis, Badminton, Handball, Volleyball, Basketball, Swimming, Karate-do, Disable Sports and Tae-Kwondo, with Wrestling and Weightlifting as exhibition events.
